The El Morado Glacier is located in the Baños Morales area (Arenas Park), in the Cajón del Maipo, Metropolitan Region, approximately 2 hours from Santiago. The hike begins there; we'll coordinate your entry at the start and pick you up at your accommodation.

Approximately 14 km round trip with 745 m of elevation gain, to be completed in a full day. The route winds through the valley amidst mountain scenery until reaching the glacier, with views of the El Morado massif. The descent follows the same route.

What is the best time to upload it?

Spring, summer, and autumn are the best times to hike the trail. In winter, the route may be snow-covered and subject to typical winter mountain conditions.

Is it possible to climb without a guide?

The route is accessible, but it's high in the Andes, and both access (Arenas Park / Baños Morales) and the weather can change. Going with a guide solves the problem of entry, safety, and pacing, and frees you from the logistics. That's why we offer it as a guided tour, either private or in a group.

Backpack (30+ liters), trekking boots (high-top recommended), comfortable clothing, a jacket for low temperatures, gloves and a hat, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and at least 2 liters of water. We will confirm the equipment based on the conditions.

Can I go alone, with children, or with pets?

You can go alone: many people come solo and make new friends on the mountain. You can also go with children if they have the appropriate equipment and are used to hiking. Pets are not allowed, out of respect for the environment and other participants.

The El Morado Glacier trail is one of the most iconic treks in the Maipo Canyon. It begins in the Valley of the Sands and traverses a vast, mineral landscape surrounded by Andean giants. As you continue, you'll find embedded fossils, unique formations, and glaciers that herald the approach of ice.
