Pintor: Welcome to the world of high mountains

An Andean experience above 4,000 meters, with no ropes or crampons, but with all the vastness of the mountain landscape.

trekking pintor santiago 06

Cerro Pintor is one of the most accessible routes for experiencing the high mountains near Santiago. Its name comes from the orange, reddish and ocher tones that color its slopes, creating a visually stunning landscape. The route starts in La Parva and climbs quickly, offering open views of El Plomo, Altar and Leonera.

It doesn't require technique, but it does demand physical preparation, acclimatization and respect for altitude. At the summit, above 4,100 meters, everything stops: your body hums, your mind calms and the vastness becomes part of you.

Totalmente recomendados. ¡Son unos cracks!

I cannot emphasize enough how much I have appreciated this experience with Vicho and Javi.
The adventure itself a lovely mix of challenges and magic. Most of all, this couple were the best people to share this experience with, I appreciate all their knowledge, expertise, mental and physical support, thoughtfulness, hospitality, friendliness and flexibility according to my needs and preferences. This was especially important for me since this was the first time I did something of this kind, and I felt safely out of my comfort zone.
Until next time!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 🥾 How hard is it and do I need previous experience?

It's high mountain terrain, demanding because of the altitude: 4,180 m, about 14 km and 1,235 m of elevation gain in a single full day. There are no technical sections, but you feel the altitude and it requires good physical condition. It's an excellent first guided 4,000 m peak; the guide regulates the pace and acclimatization.

  • 📍 Where is it and where does the route start?

Cerro Pintor is in the Andes, in the La Parva area of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, about an hour and a half from Santiago. That's where the route starts; on the day of the trip we coordinate transportation and pick you up at your hotel.

  • 🧭 What is the route like and how long does it take?

About 14 km round trip with 1,235 m of elevation gain, over a full day. The climb is sustained over high mountain terrain to the summit at 4,180 m, with stunning views of the Andes. No technical sections, but the altitude sets the pace. The descent follows the same route.

  • 📅 When is the best time to climb it?

Spring and fall, and summer up high. In winter the summit is usually snow-covered and it becomes a winter mountain outing that requires more technique and gear.

  • ⛰️ Can I climb it without a guide?

It's high mountain terrain: at 4,180 m the altitude and weather change quickly. Going with a guide ensures the right pace, acclimatization and safety. That's why we offer it as a private guided trip.

  • 🎒 What should I bring?

    For this activity, bring:

    - 20+ liter backpack
    - Trail running or hiking shoes
    - Comfortable hiking clothes
    - Warm layer or windbreaker
    - Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
    - At least 2 liters of water

We'll confirm the gear based on the weather conditions.

  • 🧍 Can I go alone, with children or pets?

You can come on your own: many people come alone and make new friends on the mountain. You can also bring children if they have the right gear and are used to walking, keeping in mind that it's high mountain terrain. It's not suitable for pets, out of respect for the environment and other participants.

  • 🥗 Vegetarian, celiac or other dietary options?

Yes. We adapt the food to your needs: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or other restrictions. Just let us know when you book and we'll take care of the rest.

  • 📝 How do I book?

Just fill out the form on this page. Once we receive it, we'll confirm the date and all the details. Then we'll send you the payment link and, after payment, you'll fill out a medical form.

  • ❌ What happens if I cancel or the weather is bad?

We have a clear cancellation policy, with refunds or credit depending on how far in advance you cancel. We only call off a trip due to extreme weather or safety risks; in that case, we offer to reschedule or refund your money.

"A wonderful experience from start to finish. Vicente was motivating, kind and very knowledgeable about the wildlife, geology and weather. He constantly checked on our health and safety at altitude: money well spent for an unforgettable day climbing more than 1,500 m to a 4,100 m summit."
