High mountaineering isn't for complete beginners, but it is achievable. You don't need climbing skills, but you do need good physical condition, prior experience in mountain trekking, and altitude tolerance. If you've never slept at altitude, we can design a progression for you: start with an acclimatization hike or climb Leonera before tackling El Plomo or San José. Tell us about your experience, and we'll create the right route for you.
PRIVATE & PERSONALIZED EXPEDITIONS
We design a challenging, safe, and transformative expedition with you.
The most accessible high-altitude mountaineering in the Andes is right outside Santiago. Few capital cities in the world have peaks over 5.000 meters within a few hours of the city center.
From Cerro El Plomo (5.424 m) to the San José Volcano, the central mountain range is a privileged terrain to get started in high-altitude mountaineering or to add a great Andean summit.
We design private, guided expeditions tailored to your needs: with progressive acclimatization, complete logistics and certified guides, so that your only focus is the mountain.
Why go mountaineering with us?
A successful expedition from beginning to end.
High-altitude mountaineering demands preparation, mountain awareness, and real-time safety decisions. That's what we provide: certified guides, acclimatization planning, camping and high-altitude equipment, mountain nutrition, transportation from Santiago, and permits. You bring your fitness and enthusiasm; we'll take care of the rest.

💪 Do I need experience to do a mountaineering expedition near Santiago?
-
🍂 What is the best time for mountaineering near Santiago?
The high-altitude mountaineering season runs from November to April, when the weather and snow conditions are more stable. Outside of this season, the peaks experience winter conditions that demand more technical skill and equipment. For specific dates, contact us and we'll tell you the best time to climb for each peak.
-
⏱️ How many days does an expedition last?
It depends on the summit. Cerro El Plomo is a 3- to 4-day program; Volcán San José, 4- to 5-day; and Cerro Leonera is shorter. Each program includes days of gradual acclimatization with high-altitude camps for a safe ascent.
-
🏔️ Do I need to acclimatize to climb peaks over 5.000 meters?
Yes. High peaks like El Plomo (5.424 m) or the San José Volcano require acclimatization. That's why expeditions ascend gradually, with high-altitude camps, and the guide manages the pace to prevent altitude sickness.
-
⛰️ What peaks can I climb near Santiago?
The three major peaks accessible from Santiago are the Cerro El Plomo (5.424 m), the San Jose Volcano (5.856 m) and the Mt. Leonera (4.950 m). Leonera is the most accessible and a good warm-up; El Plomo is the classic summit for your first five thousand; and San José, a longer and more demanding volcanic expedition.
-
⛑️ Is it safe? What about altitude sickness?
Safety comes first: we go with certified guides, in small groups, and insurance is included. At altitude, the guide monitors how you feel, regulates the pace and acclimatization, and descends if necessary. The summit is a goal, not an obligation.

🥾 What is the difference between trekking and a mountaineering expedition?
A trek is a half-day or full-day hike that returns the same day. A mountaineering expedition is a multi-day program with high-altitude camps to climb major peaks like El Plomo or San José. If you're looking for real altitude and sleeping on the mountain, expeditions are for you.
