Planning your trip

💪 Do I need experience or good fitness to go trekking near Santiago?
Not for all of them. We have routes for every level: from accessible hikes like El Morado Natural Monument (ideal for beginners or families) to demanding climbs like Cerro Provincia or high-altitude expeditions. The key is choosing the right trip for your fitness; if you tell us about your experience, we'll recommend the best option.
-
🍂 When is the best time for trekking and mountain trips near Santiago?
It depends on the route. The foothill peaks (Manquehue, Provincia) can be enjoyed almost year-round, with fall and spring as the best seasons. The high mountains and expeditions (Pintor, El Plomo, San José Volcano) have their window between November and April, when the weather at altitude is most stable. In winter many routes turn to snow conditions.
-
🧭 Do I need a guide or can I do the routes on my own?
Some routes can be done independently, but several cross private land, parks with regulated access or high mountains where the weather changes quickly. Going with a guide takes care of access, transportation, safety and pace, and lets you enjoy it without worrying about the logistics. Especially recommended if you're coming from outside Chile.
-
🗺️ Which route suits my level?
As a guide: to get started, El Morado Natural Monument or Cerro Manquehue; for a full-day challenge, Cerro Provincia or El Morado Glacier; for your first 4,000 m peak, Cerro Pintor (4,180 m); and for a real high-altitude expedition, Cerro El Plomo (5,424 m) or San José Volcano (5,800 m). If you write to us, we'll advise you based on your experience.
-
🏔️ Do I need to acclimatize for the high peaks?
For one-day trips at altitude (like Cerro Pintor, 4,180 m), we recommend not arriving straight from sea level and spending one or two nights in Santiago first. The expeditions (El Plomo, San José Volcano) include days of gradual acclimatization with high camps, managed by the guide so you can climb safely.
-
⛑️ Is it safe? What about altitude sickness?
Safety is our priority: we go with certified guides, small groups and insurance included. On high-altitude trips the guide monitors how you feel and regulates the pace to prevent altitude sickness; if necessary, we descend. That's why acclimatization and a good guide make all the difference.
-
🚗 Can I do a day trip from Santiago without a car?
Yes. On private experiences we pick you up at your hotel or home, and on group trips we arrange a central meeting point. You don't need a vehicle: transportation is included.
-
⛰️ What's the difference between a trek and an expedition?
A trek is a half-day or full-day hike that returns the same day (like Manquehue, Provincia or El Morado Glacier). An expedition is a multi-day program with high camps to climb big summits like Cerro El Plomo or San José Volcano. If you're after mountaineering and real altitude near Santiago, expeditions are for you.
