The path to the Juncal Glacier viewpoint is in the private park Andino Juncal, 2.5 hours from Santiago, in the Valparaiso region. It is in the Aconcagua Valley and its route covers two-thirds of the Juncal River basin, which rises from the top of Mt. Juncal 5953 masl. Apart from its beauty, the Juncal Glacier is the main water source for the Valparaiso region's inhabitants, supplying 10% of the Chilean population.
The route is moderately difficult with mild slopes and lasts about 7 hours (round trip). Through the hike, we will enter the heart of the Andes, into a high mountain valley walking under imposing summits such as Mt. Alto Los Leones. We will also cross altitude wetlands, habitats for wildlife such as foxes, condors, and eagles, which we hope to see.
This is a recommended route, particularly due to its average physical difficulty. The trail also has water all along the trip, allowing us to save weight and drink fresh water along the way. We will have the chance to reach the foot of one of the largest and most imposing glaciers of the Andean Cordillera, at the head of the Aconcagua basin.
